Biography

Peter Golub has composed numerous scores for feature films and documentaries. Highlights include Frozen River (nominated for 2 Academy Awards); The Laramie Project (with Steve Buscemi, for HBO); The Great Debaters (co-composed with James Newton Howard and directed by Denzel Washington); and Wordplay (a documentary featuring Will Shortz, Bill Clinton and Jon Stewart). He arranged and conducted music for Andy Garcia's The Lost City (with Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman)

Born in New York City, Golub received his musical training at Bennington College and The Yale School of Music. In addition to his work as a composer, Golub has been Director of the Sundance Film Music Program since 1999 and has recently been on the music faculty at UCLA.

Before moving to Los Angeles in 1995, Golub wrote numerous concerts works as well as music for theatre. Recent Broadway scores include The Heiress, Time Stands Still, Come Back Little Sheba, Suddenly Last Summer, and Hedda Gabler. He has also composed numerous scores for the New York Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights Horizon, The Huntington Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival and many others

Golub's music combines classical orchestral and chamber elements with contemporary textures, all with a strong, dramatic thrust. His ability to read a film and create the appropriate music is key to his approach. He won a BMI Classic Award in 2008, a 2008 Vision Award and an award for Best Music at the 2005 Avignon Film Festival.
